We are currently investing in Distance Learning Facilities to teach courses over the internet.

Training Philosophy

As the commercial and military fleets move forward with electronic navigation and reduced manning initiatives, the future demands placed upon a smaller number of bridge watchstanders to safely navigate their ships will require navigational skills sets that are vastly different compared with traditional practices. Sperry Marine has been teaching these “delta” skill sets for many years. We focus on developing the prudent mariner -- one who not only understands how the system works, but can intuitively react in times of emergency to keep their ship safe.

Sperry Marine strives to deliver to the modern sailor the skills and knowledge essential for performing in today’s high-tech navigational environment. Our instruction techniques combine the human dimensions of judgment, intuition, and instinct with in-depth theory and extensive hands-on practical exercises to deliver what is broadly recognized as the best training in the industry.

It is our commitment to integrate human factors with advanced technology to allow the modern sailor to arrive at their ship fully prepared to navigate using advanced Integrated Bridge Systems to maintain their operational effectiveness.

Training History

While Sperry Marine has been providing top quality to our customers for nearly a century, a snapshot of the last five years well illustrates our commitment and experience in teaching advanced navigation to a wide variety of commercial and military sailors:

Sailors from the following countries have passed STCW 95 certification through Sperry Marine courses: USA, Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Croatia, Israel, Egypt, India, Australia, New Zealand, Faeroe Islands, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Columbia, Jamaica, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile and Panama.
Spery Marine has certified sailors from commercial customers including Maersk, Disney Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Peter Dohle, Stolt, Hvide Marine, Kent Lines, British Petroleum, Andriaki Shipping, Westwood Shipping, Horizon Lines and Chevron Texaco. In addition we provided Train-the-Trainer courses for premier commercial training centers like the STAR Center and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Sperry Marine has certified sailors from every platform in the US Navy including the Advanced Seal Delivery System (ASDS), SSN, SSBN, PC’s, LCAC’s, CG’s, DDG’s, LHD’s, LHA’s, LPD’s, CV, CVN’s, and special prototype vessels like SEAFIGHTER (X-Craft). We have also provided Train-the-Trainer services to COMSPECBOATRON, NAVSPECWARCEN, NSWC (various) NAVSUBSCOL, TTF Bangor, COMSUBPAC, SUBTRAFAC, FTSCLANT, FTSCPAC, COMOPTEVFOR, NSTCP, FTC San Diego, FTC Norfolk, , ATG MIDPAC, NAVSEA PEO IWS, NAVSEA PHIL, SPAWAR, various NROTC units and the United States Naval Academy. For pre-commissioned vessels, we have strong working relationships with the major shipyards to provide extensive classroom and underway training to the initial crew. In addition to these US Navy courses, we have also trained the USCG, US Army, Military Sealift Command and NOAA during this period.
