Key Steering Components
Standard Hydraulic Power Unit
Applied hydraulic power units (HPU) consist of a reservoir provided with internal vane pump(s), powered by electric motor(s) mounted on top of the unit in either single or dual fashion, to accommodate the desired configuration. By using this design the hydraulic power units become very compact, allowing them to be built into relatively small vessels with only imited space available.
Starter Unit
The starter unit provides the means to start and stop the hydraulic power unit. Depending on customer requirements the starter unit also provides the selection of local / remote control. The alarm detection and presentation circuits are integrated in the starter unit.
Redundancy Management
In case of failures occurring in dual systems, special features are integrated allowing the "live" system to take over control of the system. This feature applies to both electric and hydraulic failures provided that the cause of the failure can be isolated.
Rudder Repeatback
In electronic / hydraulic controlled systems, rudder position is fed back into the system to achieve closed loop control. Each rudder is provided with at least one repeatback sensor. Depending on the applicable regulations separate repeatbacks are added for rudder indication and alarm functions.
